Our our sign writing shop in Cardiff near Newcastle services the Central Coast & Hunter Region of New South Wales. We were engaged to install a new flag pole for a school in Medowie, NSW. Medowie Christian School wanted a new flag pole and chose an internal roped model so they could fly the Australian flag.
Flag pole repairs completed in a few hours
Our shop in Cardiff NSW sells and repairs flag poles. We have a wide selection you can choose from and our services can include the removal, repair and/or installation of a new one. In this example Swansea RSL, located in the Lake Macquarie region of New South Wales, asked us to repair two of their outdoor flag poles;
- Flagpole 1 – The internal rope had broken, causing the necklace (the fitting that holds the flag) to detach, making it impossible to hoist the Australian flag.
- Flagpole 2 – The rope had deteriorated to the point where it could no longer support the raising and lowering of a flag.
Both of these issues meant the flag poles couldn’t be used at all and the club were preparing their premises for the upcoming ANZAC Day activities which required flags to be raised. For Swansea RSL, the inability to properly display the Australian flag presented a significant issue. As a club dedicated to honouring the sacrifices made by Australian servicemen and women, the presence of operational flagpoles all year round is crucial.
There were four steps to this repair process which included determining whether the poles would need to be felled (taken down) to complete the re-stringing which was essential in order to ensure a safe and effective repair.
Step 1 – Removal of the Poles – After confirming that the poles needed to be removed, we:
- Undid the rivets that secured the poles to the spigots (the base attachments holding the poles in place).
- Carefully lowered the poles to prevent bending or damage, ensuring that they remained in pristine condition.
Step 2 – Rope Replacement – Once the poles were offsite, the following steps were taken:
- A new internal rope was fed through the top of the pole and guided out the bottom hole.
- Using swages, crimpers, and sister clips, a new necklace was connected to the top section of the rope.
- A second sister clip was attached at the other end, ensuring the flag could be properly raised and secured.
Step 3 – Reinstallation – After the ropes were successfully replaced and the flagpoles tested for functionality, we:
- Repositioned the poles back onto their spigots.
- Secured the poles with screws to prevent unwanted movement, ensuring that they remain stable during high winds or storms.
Step 4 – Final Checks – Before completing the service, we conducted thorough testing to ensure that both flagpoles were fully operational.
